It May be Autumn but Bath’s Bikes are Still Blooming

Sorry, it’s been a bit quiet on the Bikes in Bloom Blog.

That’s autumn for you; leaves are falling, nights are drawing in and all we really want to do is snuggle up in front of the fire!

But out on the streets of Bath bikes are still blooming.  We’ve had our cameras at the ready to catch any of your beautifully decorated bikes, and you are still doing us proud. Here are a few snapped over the last couple of months.  Are they yours?

If your bike’s been caught on camera, email us, it would be lovely to hear from you.

Looking pretty in Bathwick

Anyone wanting to join in the fun can get some flowers from us this Saturday when we’ll be at the Farmers’ Market at Green Park Station from 10.30am, usually drinking coffee at the Green Park Brasserie

Just look out for the flowery basket.

BiB ride – Wednesday 5 September

The lovely people at the BBC seem to think it will be wall to wall
sunshine on Wednesday!

Not wanting to miss what may be our last opportunity for another
evening ride, why not join BiB for a gentle pootle down the canal to
Dundas and back to the George or the Bathampton Mill for a drink or
food on the way home.

Bring lights because it is getting dark about 8ish.

Meet in Kingsmead Square at 5.45pm or Warminster Road by the canal
entrance at 6.00pm.

We’ll be the ones with flowers on our bikes!

Hope to see you there!

The day of judgment

Tuesday 17 July dawned with overcast skies, but a sense of anticipation in the air.  It was finally time for the Britain in Bloom judges to visit our beautiful city and take in the efforts of all of those involved in Bath in Bloom.  We had rallied the troops and were hoping for a good turn out in Union Street at around 1.20pm when we’d been told the judges would pass by on their tour of the city.

They came, they saw, they judged – see some of the pics below!  Thank you to everyone who came out with their gorgeous bikes.  We saw them up and down Milsom Street as well as a particularly spectacular effort by Rafael and Cecilia at the City of Bath College.  I’m sure you’ll agree that Bikes in Bloom did the day proud – now for the results…!!

Tuesday 17 July…

…is the day when Bath will be visited by the Britain in Bloom judges.  They will be shown around our gorgeous city with its many fantastic examples of hanging baskets, flowers and greenery.

See what Bath in Bloom is up to on their Facebook page.  Bikes in Bloom will be part of the whole day and there are a couple of ways you can help out too!

If you have time and are able, head to WHSmith in Union Street just before 1.30pm.  We will have our BiB display up, so bring along some food and something to sit on for our impromtu BiB picnic.  Oh, and your bike of course, decorated to the max!

If you’re not able to join us for the picnic, please try and park your bike in town on Tuesday, either around Orange Grove or anywhere along Milsom Street.  We already know that Milsom Street is a bit of a BiB hotspot, so we want to show off all of our gorgeous, blooming rides!

If you can get involved in Tuesday’s happenings, that would be fabulous – let’s show those judges just how blooming Bath can be!

See you there!

A great little ride!

BiB chose a dry evening and sallied forth direction Saltford to enjoy the Bristol – Bath Railway Path.  Along the way BiB spotted many, many cyclists (yay!) as well as some beautiful summer foliage, natural blooms and a heron.  After a pit stop at The Jolly Sailor the return leg flew by and we were soon back in Bath. How easy is it to get out to the countryside on traffic-free routes from Bath?  Very easy!

Next Tuesday BiB is part of Bath in Bloom!  We will be gathering with blooming bikes in the city centre, further details to follow.  It would be fab to see as many BiB supporters there as possible.

Happy pedalling!

Tuesday 10 July – the BiB ride!

Look at the weather forecast for Tuesday evening – NO RAIN!

Yes!  Your eyes are not deceiving you; there is no rain forecast for Bath tomorrow evening.  What better reason do you need to come and join us on our social ride along the Bristol – Bath Railway Path?  We will meet by the hire bikes at the front of Green Park Station at 6.45pm, will pick up others at the Brassmill Lane start of the path at 7.00pm and have a lovely, relaxed ride to The Jolly Sailor, returning to Bath before it’s too dark.

We are all looking forward to a fun, enjoyable ride; see you there!

Happy (and hopefully dry) pedalling!

What a week!

BiB has had a very interesting and productive week!  Obviously, battling the elements on an almost daily basis was interesting (and sometimes a little demoralising) but some very brave bloomers made it to Green Park Station on Tuesday evening (3 July) and headed up the Bristol – Bath Railway Path to the Jolly Sailor.  One of them, Liz, had not been on a bike for several years, so well done and welcome back, Liz!

Back on a bike after several years not cycling. Welcome back!

Also in addition to the fabulous Broad Street BiB display, there is now a second, down on the Lower Bristol Road at Passionate about Flowers.  Just feast your eyes on this:

Spot this one on the Lower Bristol Road!

This week also saw us decorating a bike outside the Bath Tourist Information office at Abbey Churchyard.  It looks lovely and is in a busy area, helping to spread the BiB message to visitors and locals alike.

Find this bloomer in Abbey Churchyard!

And if you were in any doubt about just how fabulous a decorated bike can look…

A trip to the garden centre calls for a blooming bike!

A huge BiB thanks to Jane for all her hard work decorating bikes and windows and leading the ride on Tuesday.

STOP PRESS!
BiB is organising another pootle along the Bristol – Bath Railway Path on Tuesday 10 July.  See our events page or Facebook for further details!

Don’t forget, Bristol Cycle Festival continues this week.  Find out more about what’s on in the programme.

Hope to see you on Tuesday.  In the meantime, happy pedalling!

Beautiful blooms & a ride!

Whilst nipping through the streets of Bath last Wednesday (heading to The Porter for the Oxjam Bath 2012 launch party, should you wonder), BiB spotted a large number of people on a Bizarre Bath walk.  Nothing particularly unusual about this; good to know that a local enterprise is doing so well!  However, have you noticed their advertising around the city?  It’s, well, rather blooming…

Don’t forget, Tuesday is our BiB Social Ride!  For more info, take a peek at Facebook (don’t forget to ‘like’ us while you’re there!), or check out our events and calendar here on the blog.  If the weather’s not brilliant we’ll go for an alternative (maybe just a social meet); we’ll make a decision by 5pm on Tuesday.

Don’t forget to take a look at our gallery; we’re updating it all the time!  We aim to get a few more pics on Tuesday.

Happy pedalling!
